Old School: Motivation is the grease that oils corporate and small business gears.
Business owners and managers tend to believe in motivation techniques. Dangle the right carrots in front of employees (that might be money, fear, time off or any number of perks), get top performance. That continuum worked 50 years ago in a time before we communicated with the speed of Twitter. It worked in our parent’s generation when people stayed in with the same company for their entire career. It worked in two-people households when the husband was the designated breadwinner and the wife took care of the home.
It doesn’t work today.
New School: Inspiration, not motivation, powers 21st Century employees.
Today’s workforce fires on all cylinders, all the time, multi-tasking a dizzying array of projects and objectives simultaneously. They change jobs many times in their careers. They want feedback that goes both ways – tell them how they’re doing and expect them to return the favor.Management from the top down is an anachronism – today’s employee wants to be part of the solutions that make business profitable and to help create a corporate culture that thrives on personal-all-levels leadership (knows what needs to be done next).
StreamingSuccess® will bring tools that shift employees from Motivation to Inspiration. We help create a company culture wherein communications flow omni-directional, inviting participation, inspiring employees to work at their highest potential.
